Please Remember That We Have Survived

Annabeth Chickering

It is okay if you are tired, scared, and overwhelmed.

It is okay if you are not sure how to move forward, not sure what the future actually means.

It is okay if socializing brings terror or comfort.

It is okay if you cannot take off the weight, or if you do not seem to know what to eat.

It is okay to be confused, grateful, angry, divided, peaceful, irreverent, connected, disoriented, imperturbable…

It means you survived.

Remember, something happened over these past years.

It was real.

You survived.

You may be wounded in ways you don’t understand yet.

It may unfold over time.

It may show up with a vengeance or quietly as you curl in a safe space.

You may not be able to find your footing -- yet.

Your body may be walking forward, but your heart is back.

You may freeze.

Your mind may be skidding forward.

Be kind to yourself.

Be kind to all of those who survived.
